"The Mark" from Nightgaunt #1

This dark illustration from Nightgaunt #1 accompanies Adam Joffrain's short story, "The Mark." The story complimented Pugmire's "Obscurity" in the same issue, though I wanted the creature to look different in accord with each story's mood. 5"x 7" scratchboard.

Nightgaunt #1 is available at www.nightgaunt.fr.

Wilum Pugmire's "Obscurity"

Nightgaunt is a new Lovecraftian zine from France that offers two new stories each issue in both French and English translation. The first issue features a new tale by Wilum Pugmire, "Obscurity," which I was honored to illustrate.

"I am overjoy'd to finally have had one of my wee tales translated into French!" Wilum wrote of this zine on his blog A View from Sesqua Valley. "I have had, for many a strange aeon, a love affair with French literature- although I cannot read or speak ye language, and it has always been a wish to see my work translated for a French journal or anthology. What is especially wondrous about seeing this wee story thus translated is that it contains one of my sonnets--and so I now have a sonnet of mine own composition translated in ye language of Baudelaire!!!!! Oh, honey- this is exquisite. My deep thanx to Adam Joffrain for publishing ye tale in his new journal, Nightgaunt, and for his translation."

Nightgaunt #1 is available now.

H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival, San Pedro

Last year my pal Nick Gucker suggested I send images to the folks behind the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festivals to use during the festival as part of their intermission slideshow. I was slow to act, waiting for 2015's festival in San Pedro to roll around, and as seen in the photos below, several illustrations were used this year. Viewing the opening ceremonies via their LiveStream broadcast, I was thrilled to see the image for Wilum Pugmire's "Obscurity" behind Cody Goodfellow's procession. The King in Yellow image from Casino Carcosa (Dunhams Manor Press, 2015) was photographed by Todd Chicoine and spotted on Facebook afterwards.

And the One They Named Was Christ

5"x 5" scratchboard done for poet and musican Phil LoPresti's project HauntedFucking. This track sounds like the score to an imaginary horror film, and is available on Phil's bandcamp page.

Pazuzu

This was done last minute for a sale at Dynatox Ministries. "Pazuzu," the name of the demon from The Exorcist, was the code for a discount.

In the Forest of the Night

Illustration to "In the Forest of the Night" by Alter Reiss, published in The Lovecraft eZine #34, March 2015, which can be read online here.

For this fantasy-flavored mythos tale, I tried to capture the sense of a medieval tapestry or renaissance woodcut by skewing and compressing the perspective. The flourish of the Elder God was fun to lose myself in, and the design of the bones on the sacrificial stone is, to me, the picture's strong point, and alone could've been the illustration.
